Epicatechin is a natural plant flavanol compound commonly found in tea, blueberries, and cocoa, with the chemical formula C15H14O6. It is a white crystal soluble in water, methanol, and ethanol. It is collectively referred to as catechin compounds along with epigallocatechin gallate (EGC), epicatechin gallate (CG), epicatechin gallate (ECG), and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). It is isomeric with catechins. Delekang extracted epicatechin from green tea leaves.
Literature reports that EC has preventive effects on cancer [5], antioxidant [1], tendon muscle [2,3], neuroprotective effects [3], and can slow down oxidative stress reactions in animals and plants, reduce inflammation, delay or treat age-related and neurological related diseases in humans and animals [4]. The pharmacokinetic and bioavailability of EC in animals far exceed that of other secondary metabolites of catechins [4]
