Monolaurin(CAS:142-18-7)

Monolaurin (CAS 142‑18‑7) is the esterification product of glycerol and lauric acid. In food, it serves as a natural preservative and emulsifier, capable of inhibiting various microorganisms including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as yeast. It can extend the shelf life of dairy products, meat, soy sauce, cheese, and more, while having minimal impact on starch and protein. In cosmetics and personal care products, due to its surfactant properties and low irritation, it is used as an antimicrobial agent for skin, oral, and vaginal care, commonly found in moisturizers, mouthwashes, vaginal gels, and the FDA also recognizes its safety in cosmetics. In oral care products, it can inhibit cariogenic bacteria and oral fungi, helping maintain oral microecological balance. In skincare formulations, its film-forming ability helps enhance the moisturizing effect of the skin barrier. Additionally, monolaurin can be used as an oral dietary supplement, providing 1–3 g daily for antibacterial and antiviral effects, suitable for supporting immune protection.
